New blog, who dis?
Well, hello there. You seem to have found my blog. How odd.
I suppose I should explain what this is.
Who am I?
Let’s call me CrazyPerson, for now. It’s as good a name as any.
As I like to tell people: “Well, if to be normal, Sir, is to be like you - then I’ll be damn glad to be insane.”
I am, as the kids would say, an H-game enjoyer. I like computer games, I like many different games, but I’m particularly fascinated lately by adult games. There’s just something unique that happens when you blend the interactivity and attention-capture of videogames with the visceral immersion of pornography.
And while we can just all sit here and rub our various funny bits while we enjoy what’s already out there, I think it’s worth thinking through why these games work, and what makes them better or worse experiences, so that we can have even better games in the future. I think there’s a ton of unexplored design space out there, waiting to be found.
For now, there are no contact details here - most likely you’ve found this blog because I posted a link to it, so you can just talk to me directly via wherever I sent you the link. In the future I may set up some sort of contact paths and/or community hangouts, but for now, I just wanted to have a blog to dump thoughts into. This space will be updated when that changes. I am not currently available for hire on more projects.
What am I going to talk about on this blog?
Why, my dear, pornography, of course!
Really, what I want to dig into is what makes porn games tick. Talk about game mechanics, theme interaction, player incentives, experiences, player-directed stories, all that good stuff.
Expect prolific amounts of rambling with some arguments sprinkled in here and there, as we make our way through different angles on game design.
Some of the arguments will be abstract, talking about generic ideas that should be transferable to many games. At other times, I may want to pick a particular game apart to dig deep into how and why it works, where I find it has some rough edges, and possible ideas on how these could be changed.
In some cases, I may link to a game I’m discussing so you can easily play it for yourself to see if you agree with me. However, I think what I’ll do more often is reference the game indirectly - not all of what I’m saying will be positive, and I don’t want to come across as dragging someone’s hard work, so I may forego direct links more often than not.
Also, obviously - any links should not be seen as endorsement: I may link to things I find interesting or instructive, but I have no control over what is at that link’s destination or how it may change. And merely me pointing at something certainly does not mean that they in turn would somehow be endorsing me and what I do here.
To be clear: This blog is not intended to be a curated collection of high-quality game links. Others are already doing that and doing a much better job than I ever could. I may skip talking about a good but mechanically middle-of-the-road game, and I may talk to great lengths about an interesting but ultimately bad game. I’m here to discuss what makes games work, not hand out recommendations.
Also, note that I will be focusing mostly on games I personally enjoy,
as these are what I spend more time playing and have more experience with.
I am but one deranged brain in this great ship Vylbrand strange big world,
others will have other preferences, and that’s perfectly fine!
So long as you’re not causing harm to anyone else,
anyone should be free to enjoy whoever and whatever they like.
If you find me never talking about a particular thing you’re into,
I’m not trying to talk it down,
I might just not know enough about it to do it justice.
Content Warnings
Yes.
Seriously, I’m going to be talking about porn in all its messy glory. Those easily offended, or squeamish about the light body horror that is “sex but think about it too long”, this may not be for you.
This blog isn’t meant to be arousing reading material, I’m not planning on any gratuitious sexting mid-post, but still - there are going to be descriptions of tab A getting put into slot B, as there will occasionally be gameplay considerations to be had about it.
So beware: There will be explicit language, there will be bad jokes, there will be awkward references. Specifically, expect a content level of “japan without the extremes” - discussions will have sex, sex fighting, dubious consent, body modification, monsters, pregnancies, monster pregnancies, light vore, and other assorted fetishes. I will try to avoid directly running into scat or guro. Once I figure out how to make this blog tech do spoiler tagging, those may show up here and there.
Other content
Other than general game design rambles, I may post occasional updates if I or people I work with release something new and shiny, or if I’m just excited about a particular new release.
Or anything else, really. I reserve the right to ramble on about whatever I dang well please. It’s my blog, make your own if you want a different one.
That’s all for now, let’s see where this goes.
